What is a Director of Technology Products and Services?

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Director of Technology Products and Services will be the subject matter expert for all things related to our technology products including the ability to build and possibly deploy trainings. Your main goal is to ensure an amazing client experience while making sure Technology and Informatics tools are used effectively. This position requires strong leadership skills, business understanding, strategic thinking, and a passion for working with the community.  You will be challenged to spot inefficiencies and think of ways to improve them. They will also lead the development of any product delivery for possible external customers.

This person is excited by the intersection of emerging technology and user experience. They are always looking for ways to leverage technology as a means to solve complex problems, and ultimately, create a positive impact on their community.

Essential Results

Be able to execute on the technology strategy set forth by the Chief Technology Officer and executive leadership team.

  • Assist in developing and executing product vision and strategy.
  • Provide vision and leadership in the development, training, sustainment and implementation of improved information technology systems.
  • Use data to validate product roadmap needs and priorities.

Help guide 211 San Diego in improving processes, products, services and software through analysis.

  • Bridge the gap between IT and the business using data to assess processes, determine requirements and deliver data-driven recommendations and reports to executives and stakeholders.
  • Act as a conduit for feedback, ensuring the continuous improvement of all technology systems to provide an amazing end-user experience.
  • Consult with end-users to analyze and understand user needs, objectives, desired features, and input and output requirements.
  • Engage with business leaders and users to understand how data-driven changes to process, products, services, software and hardware can improve efficiencies and add value. They must articulate those ideas but also balance them against what's technologically feasible and financially and functionally reasonable.

Responsible for the end-to-end implementation and training of technology products and services

  • Co-write user stories
  • Own the product backlog, and monitor the utilization of released functionality.
  • Drive system enhancement efforts to completion
  • Set realistic deadlines and manage key milestones of the product or service
  • Communicate status and progress to key stakeholders

Establish effective, communication and collaboration between and across departments.

  • Communicate and follow up to ensure staff are fully informed of all new information or changes related to 2-1-1 San Diego technology products and services
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners and end-users to create sophisticated and impactful technology learning products to ensure high adoption rate of internal technology products
  • Partner with all leaders on program implementation, processes, and problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with OD/Training team by providing subject matter expertise.

Qualifications & Requirements

Knowledge & Experience

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Learning Technology, or related field. A combination of directly related college course work and experience may be substituted. 
  • Previous experience working in social services or a nonprofit is required
  • Significant experience with cloud-based technologies like Office 365, inContact, or Salesforce is required
  • Experience using Rally, JIRA or another requirements management tool is required
  • Demonstrated ability to translate user's needs to business requirements
  • General understanding of how systems, products, and tools work.
