What is a Director of Salesforce Technology?

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Director of Salesforce Technology will be the subject matter expert for all things Salesforce.  You will guide the Salesforce CRM platform at 211 San Diego technologically, strategically, and operationally, by bringing strong CRM leadership to the agency.  This position requires strong project management skills, business understanding, strategic thinking, and a passion for working with the community.  You will be challenged with identifying innovative ideas and proof of concepts to deliver against the existing and future needs of our customers, both internal and external.  The Director of Salesforce Technology will act as a strategic thought partner and liaison between internal teams.  This role is responsible for providing system support, user administration, configuration of the Salesforce CRM platform and management of projects to create or update functionality. This person will lead  a team of internal Salesforce resources and offshore developers.

Essential Results

Assist in developing the overall strategy for Salesforce for 211 San Diego as well as the San Diego partner community.

  • Articulates the big picture, and questions assumptions of the current approach. Establishes channels for feedback from end users to provide ongoing insight into current design.
  • Understands the impact a process change might have on the system and be able to guide process definitions accordingly.
  • Consults with end-users to analyze and understand user needs, objectives, desired features, and input and output requirements.
  • Supports efforts to grow the platform through new applications and technology as needed.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvements and assists with the design and deployment of alternatives to implement new initiatives.

Builds Salesforce enhancements with a design thinking perspective.

  • Leads CRM development cycles from conceptualization to implementation.
  • Drives system enhancement efforts to completion by gathering and assessing user requirements with stakeholders and provide configuration, development and application support to the teams enabling enhanced productivity, reporting capabilities and collaboration.
  • Supports customizations and configurations (Formulas, Workflows, Validation rules, Approval Processes, Apex, Lightning Components, JavaScript, Custom objects and fields, Sharing rules, Page layouts, Record types, Permission Sets, Reports and Dashboards).
  • Ensures Salesforce configuration supports business requirements.
  • Creates and implements processes to identify and translate user's needs to actual software workflow.

Leads design, development and implementation of Salesforce enhancements to execution.

  • Leads sprint grooming, scrum and product owner reviews.
  • Project manages testing, user acceptance and implementation.
  • Documents changes made to current systems.
  • Writes test cases, user stories and bug reporting/validation, release notes.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer, business or related field, along with a minimum of five years' experience in related role(s)
  • 5+ years of hands on Salesforce experience
  • Salesforce Certification is required
  • com integration experience preferred, including between different business systems as well as working with integration tools
  • Ability to think strategically while rolling up your sleeves and managing details
  • Project management experience is required
  • Knowledge of Service Cloud, Community Portal and Person Accounts is required
  • Experience with applying a design thinking approach
  • Ability to think critically, solve problems, make decisions and build trust across the organization
  • Good understanding of technical equipment and software packages
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to understand the business, business needs and identify areas that can be optimized
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and execute defined goals and objectives and ensure compliance with measured performance
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail
  • Ability to both take direction and independently problem solve when needed

Work Schedule:        Full-time exempt position; flexibility is required due to nature of business. Schedule may be changed as needed, to include weekends and holidays. Required to be responsive and available for shifts for as much as 12 hours in length during declared emergencies to perform duties as directed by the Emergency Manager.
