What is a Resource and Data Supervisor?

Reporting into the Director of Informatics, the Resource and Data Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and ensuring a comprehensive, robust, and accurate resource database. The Resource and Data Supervisor oversees a team of Resource and Data Specialists to ensure the collection of information about community programs and services. Additionally, the Resource and Data Supervisor manages team projects and uses data reports and dashboards to drive success.

Essential Results

Resource Database Management

  • Leads the maintenance of the resource database, updating 100% of existing agencies in the 2-1-1 San Diego database at least once a year.
  • Identifies appropriate categorization of resources and applicable target populations using the 2-1-1 Taxonomy of Information Referral Systems, analyzes database for inconsistencies and aligns taxonomy application.
  • Conducts in-depth interviews with partner agencies as needed to ensure an accurate and comprehensive description of services in the 2-1-1 San Diego database.
  • Applies critical thinking to all resource editing activities to ensure that all services descriptions are comprehensive, accurate and consistent.
  • Utilizes and creates reports and dashboards to strategically assess resource database metrics.
  • Ensures the 2-1-1 San Diego Inclusion Policy and Style Guide is reviewed annually, understands new or emerging trends in new community resources and identifies opportunities to review and adjust the Inclusion Policy as appropriate.
  • Adheres to the Alliance for Information and Referral Services (AIRS) Standards for Information and Referral.
  • Adheres to all department policies, practices and procedures related to the resource database and partnership data management.
  • Manages Resource Database Quality Standards and analyzes strength of the database based on key quality metrics.
  • Completes monthly review of resources using standardized Quality Assurance framework.

Relationship and Partnership-Building

  • Maintains communication with 2-1-1 San Diego staff and customers to increase accuracy and comprehensiveness of database.
  • Collaborates with the Community Information Exchange (CIE) team to support and promote CIE success.
  • Cultivates on-going relationships with community partners, engages in community meetings to develop additional partnerships.
  • Documents activities and partnership engagement to ensure effective internal communication.
  • Develops and delivers trainings to internal teams.
  • Responds to general customer requests in a timely manner.

Provide Leadership and Maintain Positive Team Culture

  • Supervise and support Resource and Data Specialists in achieving individual and team goals.
  • Provide coaching for team members to advance analytic skills.

 Qualifications

  •  BA/BS Degree preferred, or AA/AS Degree with related experience may be substituted.
  • One year of experience in the area of customer service required; three or more years in non-profit or government sectors, San Diego community preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience with supervising a team.
  • Experience in managing projects (e.g. creating timelines, following up with stakeholders, and independently managing project to completion).
  • Intersectional understanding of social services (what) and target populations (who), and how resources are accessed by the community.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to apply complex and multi-faceted concepts to all activities.
  • Attention to detail: is thorough when performing work; double-checks the accuracy of information to ensure high-quality and precise work.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop strong professional relationships.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt to organizational change and new projects.
  • Excellent writing skills required with an emphasis on correct grammar and ability to summarize.
  • Superior computer skills required, with familiarity of electronic databases. Computer skills tests may be a requirement of employment.
  • Must actively pursue individual AIRS Resource Database Curator certification, when eligible.
